The Volkswagen Beetle is a safe, fun and reliable car, it is also quite a fun vehicle to own and though the various models are popular with a variety of personas and age ranges, they are becoming more and more popular with the younger generation.

The all-new revamped beetle comes complete with an elegant and sleek body with hi-tech auto equipment that a little bigger than the previous model in order to make use out of the extra interior space of the car.

If you are on a budget and wish to invest in some budget car insurance then you will need to shop around, another option of course is to invest in third party insurance, this is especially advisable for new drivers or those under 25 as otherwise you could end up paying a small fortune. Some insurance providers will now even allow third party drivers to build up a no claims bonus.

Some companies also offer student car insurance and if your car isn’t classed as a high-risk vehicle then achieving budget car insurance can be as easy as a walk in the park. Depending on the college you attend, with some insurance policies you could receive up to 15% off your final insurance quote. They will also focus on where you study as the area you live in can in fact make a lot of difference to the amount you pay.

The cutesy bug-eyed aura, smooth corners and spherical roofline are what makes this car so apt for today’s generation as it offers a modern and sports design that is still suitable for families and city living. The coupe-style roof also makes it a great vehicle for the summer months and the assortment of colours available make it attractive to an array of different personas.

The Volkswagen Golf GTI has been around for quite a few years now, in fact it goes right back to the 1970s. Back then it was just about the coolest car on the road with huge amounts of street credibility and a must have for a large number of boy racers. If you are looking for a vintage GTI or used cars try searching online for a better deal than at garages.

Over the years there have been many changes to this model and nowadays this is less of a cult car and more of a family hatchback, but there is nothing staid about this car; it is still very hot.

The GT1 is now in its sixth incarnation and it is now powered by the excellent 2 litre TFSI turbocharged engine which delivers a punching 210 bhp. The performance is fairly similar to the mark 5 version, except that it has better acceleration at both lower revs and higher revs; a kind of extended sweet spot. In t4erms of acceleration, 0 to 60 time is 6.7 seconds and the top speed is 148 mph.

For the gearbox you can choose either a six speed manual or a dual-clutch steering wheel paddle semi-automatic, which really does give you almost instantaneous gear changes.

As you might anticipate, the handling is excellent though as the suspension is necessarily on the stiff side and a little lower than on previous versions your passengers might find it a bit bumpy when driving on uneven surfaces. If you are the kind of driver who really likes to toe it when accelerating hard out of corners, there is an XDS traction control system which will help keep your tyres in gripping contact with the road.

For the real enthusiast, there is the option of an adjustable suspension system called adaptive chassis control. In normal mode the car handles like a standard GTi, but hit sports mode and you are set to try out your abilities at rally driving.

Although this is a driver’s car, it is family friendly too. There is plenty of space inside; the car is quiet (at least when you are not hitting the red on the rev counter); air conditioning comes as standard; and there is plenty of space in the boot.

The Volkswagen campervan is an icon of the 1960s and many models in psychedelic livery were often to be seen being driven along the hippy trail. Of course the image of the VW campervan has changed much since those days, but it is kind of appropriate that the latest version of this vehicle is called the California.

The California Volkswagen California can seat and sleep up to four people. It has a pop-up roof sleeping space and can sleep two in the passenger section. And of course you get all that extra equipment that you would expect in a campervan such as a stove and a kitchen sink. There is even a compartment for a refrigerator unit. The living space also has double glazed windows and blackout curtains.

There is a huge amount of storage space for all your camping kit and your clothes. There is a large fresh water tank and a waste disposal tank and you can extend your living space with an awning that attaches to the tailgate where there are also two folding chairs.

The California is powered by a five-cylinder 2.5-litre TDI diesel engine which is available in two versions giving either 130 bhp or 174 bhp. The van comes with either two or four wheel drive and there are manual and automatic sex speed versions available. As you might expect this is not a power vehicle; it will take you around 16 seconds to reach 60; but once you get there cruising comfortable and peaceful. Air conditioning is standard and there are many little extras such as electric windows, sat nav, and cruise control.

If you enjoy driving a van, then you will enjoy driving the Volkswagen California. It has many safety features and has the excellent reliability associated with VW campers.

The Volkswagen campervan is of course a lifestyle vehicle and for many drivers it is their second car. If you like the outdoor life and the feeling of freedom that this type of vehicle promises, then this vehicle ticks all the boxes.

For those who consider the environment along with their vehicular needs, Volkswagen is pursuing several routes to creating electric powered vehicles. Earlier research has convinced the engineers at Volkswagen that the hydrogen fuel cell will not work successfully for an electric car.

While none are as yet on the market, 2011 is the hoped-for release date of the 2012 Touareg Hybrid diesel-electric hybrid. Partnered with Sanyo in developing a battery system that will provide adequate range with minimal weight involvement. After the initial release, Volkswagen plans creating hybrid versions of several of its most popular models such as the Golf, Jetta, and Passat.

The totally electric Volkswagen is also a thing of the future. There is the 2-door E-Up! concept car debuted in 2009. Being a front engine, front-wheel drive, the E-Up! will be powered by a 60 watt all-integrated drive motor. Production is expected to begin in 2013.

If you just can’t wait until the new model all-electric and diesel -electric hybrids come out from Volkswagen, there is the conversion option. It has become something of a fad to convert older Volkswagens, especially the Beetle, into electric cars. There are a variety of conversion kit designs available. As well as plug-in rechargers, solar power cells are another option for obtaining the electric fuel to drive your VW. For a modest price just about any Volkswagen model can be retrofitted to use an electric motor and battery pack. Some removal of liquid-fuel using equipment will be necessary to incorporate the electric option.

There is not really such a thing as an “unpopular” Volkswagen car. The classic Beetle has become a firmly entrenched icon in human society throughout the world. Images of the 1960′s California “Hippy” are hardly complete without a VW Bus painted with paisleys in the background. The American version of the Volkswagen Golf, the Rabbit, cut a unique and recognizable profile among the United States made vehicles.

Conceived by Ferdinand Porsche, the Volkswagen Beetle’s unique form was the first aerodynamically designed in a wind tunnel. Its flowing rounded lines made “The Bug” an instant favorite among those who appreciated a reliable and affordable mode of transportation. While at the time unheard of in the United States, the rear sitting, air-cooled engine was a mechanical novelty. The Beetle’s dependability and cult popularity helped push the Beetle into the position of best selling automobile in the world.

Still, by the beginning of the 1970′s the sales of new Beetles were diminishing. In a bid to re-enthuse new car buyers, Volkswagen introduced a new model vehicle. It was a foray into mainstream automobile design with a water-cooled engine and front-wheel drive. The new model was christened the “Golf” in Europe and dubbed the “Rabbit” in the US and Canada. This angular hatchback design featured both 3-door and 5-door versions.

The mid 1990′s brought a resurgence in Volkswagen popularity when they introduced the “New Beetle.” With the retro look reminiscent of the original Beetle, the new design gained especially in the United States. Despite the competition, Volkswagen continues to bring forth automobiles worthy of their top manufacturing reputation.

Since its beginnings in 1937, Volkswagen had built its name with the air-cooled Beetle and the VW Bus. By 1974 this exclusiveness ended with the release of their first water-cooled engine vehicle, the VW Golf. Seeking international appeal for their new vehicle, the Golf was marketed as the “Rabbit” in the United States and Canada and was called the “Caribe” in Mexico. The Golf’s popularity has since made it Volkswagen’s top selling vehicle model and the third greatest worldwide.

The Golf was designed as a front-wheel drive, three-door hatchback although a five-door model, the Varient, was also produced. other incarnations of the Golf include the convertible Golf, called Cabriolet and Cabrio, and the sedan model known variously as Jetta, Vento, and Bora. It is believed that the Golf GTI design was the origination of the informal automotive industry’s term “hot hatch” for the high-performance hatchback style. The VW Golf also came in a diesel engine style and the Volkswagen Caddy, which was a pickup style based on the Golf.

The Mk2 model of the Golf was released in 1984. This variation had a slightly larger wheelbase and greater interior and exterior dimensions that the original Mk1. It also came with four-wheel drive as the Golf Country. The Golf made another leap in 1991 with the release of the Mk3. It was slightly larger than the Mk2 but with the same wheelbase. Notable variations available in the Golf Mk3 were the first Turbocharged Direct Injection diesel engine and a 2.8 L. VR6 six-cylinder engines. The Mk3 won European Car of the year in 1992.

Since the 1990′s there have been 3 more versions of the Golf as well as the beginning production of an electric version of the VW Golf called the “CityStromer.”
